At Sea Barn Racing, we realise that our horses’ success is dependent on the people who manage and care for them.
Our small but professional team is geared to getting the best possible performance from the available resources.
Overall control of Sea Barn Racing rests with Public Licensed Trainer Mr John Coombe.
Mr Coombe held a permit for many years but since 1999 has held a full public licence. Mr Coombe’s experience has mostly been with horses over the sticks, but in 2008 he was also granted a licence to train for the flat.
Mr Coombe is assisted by daughter Miranda Roberts and her highly-
John Roberts
John Roberts has spent his life in racing since leaving school. An early grounding with Tim Forster & Les Kennard prepared him for a successful training career after riding a few winners in the pointing field and under rules. His career culminated in over 100 winners. John is rarely seen in the saddle these days, but keeps the gallop in good order and oversees morning exercise.
Miranda Roberts
Miranda “Wib” Roberts spent early summer breaks riding out for various yards in England, Ireland and Australia to gain experience. She has ridden a few winners pointing, but most of her successes have come under rules.
David Miller
David Miller has grown up with horses and has worked for other local trainers as well as a stint at Highgrove before joining us in December 2010. He has an affinity with the horses and is very laid back.
Nichola Hounsell
Nicky has ridden throughout her childhood and has adapted to riding out racehorses very quickly. She schooled over hurdles within her first month of joining us and led in winner “Chesil Beach Boy” on her first day at the races!
Liselle Coutanche
Liselle has rejoined us after taking a few years away from racing to have a child and train in child care. During a week of helping us out to cover staff holidays, she ‘got the bug’ again and now rides out most mornings.
Nigel Pike
Nigel Pike is a top class farrier and he is an instrumental member of the team whose expertise can get horses with chronic problems back on track.
Our veterinary procedures are carried about by the Dorset Equine Clinic.
We are very lucky to have such an experienced and mature team.
